Standardization of procurement processes and purchase order types across multiple entities during an SAP ECC to S/4HANA transformation.
Project Context
A global manufacturing enterprise initiated a strategic transformation from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA. Procurement processes had evolved independently across regions and entities, resulting in a highly customized and fragmented system landscape.
The transformation project aimed to establish a harmonized, future-proof procurement model aligned with SAP S/4HANA best practices while ensuring operational continuity across all business units.
Business Challenge
Over time, procurement processes had become increasingly complex:
Multiple custom purchase order types
Diverging approval and release strategies
Inconsistent output and message determination
Limited transparency across entities
These inconsistencies increased maintenance effort, slowed down procurement operations and posed a significant risk for the upcoming S/4HANA conversion.
Our Scope & Responsibilities
Analysis of existing SAP ECC procurement processes
Design of a harmonized procurement target architecture for S/4HANA
Definition and consolidation of purchase order types
Alignment of procurement processes with logistics and finance
Support during customization, testing and migration activities
Key Topics
Purchase Order Type Harmonization
Release Strategy Redesign
STO & Intercompany Procurement Alignment
Output Management & Message Types
S/4HANA Readiness & Process Simplification
Outcome
The project resulted in a standardized and scalable procurement setup, significantly reducing complexity and custom code.
The harmonized process landscape provided a solid foundation for the SAP S/4HANA transition, improved transparency across entities and enabled more efficient procurement operations on a global scale.
